Path Finder supports multiple view modes so you can display files in the way that best fits what you are doing. You can switch views at any time.
Switching between views
You can change the active view by:
Clicking the view buttons in the toolbar,
or using the View menu in the menu bar.
Depending on your version, you will see some or all of:
Icon View
List View
Column View
Cover Flow View
Each view can be customized and behaves slightly differently.
Icon View
Icon View shows files and folders as larger icons with names underneath.
Good for:
Browsing images and other visual content
A more graphical, “desktop-like” layout
You can usually adjust:
Icon size
Grid spacing
Sorting and grouping (for example by Name, Date, Kind)
List View
List View displays items in rows with multiple columns such as:
Name
Date Modified
Size
Kind
Tags
Good for:
Working with large folders
Comparing file attributes
Sorting by different properties
You can:
Show or hide columns
Change column order by dragging headers
Sort by clicking a column header
Use grouping (for example by Date, Kind, Tags)
Column View
Column View represents each folder level as a column and lets you step through nested folders from left to right.
Good for:
Navigating deep folder structures very quickly
Seeing context as you move through multiple levels
When you click a folder in one column, its contents appear in the next column, and so on.
Cover Flow View
Cover Flow View is not available in Path Finder, since it was deprecated by Apple in 2018 starting with macOS Mojave
Sorting, grouping and customization
In most views, you can refine how files are shown:
Use the View menu for Sort By and Arrange By options.
Enable grouping to cluster items by Date, Kind, Tags, or other attributes.
In Icon View, adjust icon size and layout.
In List View, customize which columns appear.
Each pane in dual-pane mode can use a different view, so you can mix styles (for example, Column View on the left, List View on the right).
