Most global behaviors in Path Finder are controlled from the Settings window.
This is where you configure startup options, browsing behavior, and which features are enabled.
Open Settings
Open Path Finder.
In the menu bar, click Path Finder > Settings…
You’ll see several tabs (names may vary slightly by version), including:
General
Browser
Features
General settings (overview)
The General tab controls overall app behavior, such as:
Launch Path Finder at startup
Check for updates automatically
Default window behavior (e.g. what opens when you start Path Finder)
Option to Replace Finder (make Path Finder your default file manager)
More detailed coverage of General options is in the separate article “Settings: General”.
Browser settings (overview)
The Browser tab controls how you navigate and see files:
Show or hide hidden files
Show or hide file extensions
Decide whether folders open in new tabs or new windows
Enable confirmation dialogs before moving items to Trash and other actions
More detailed coverage of Browser options is in “Settings: Browser”.
Features settings (overview)
The Features (or similar) tab allows you to turn Path Finder features on or off, including:
Terminal integration
Git integration
Cloud services
Keyboard shortcuts and other advanced tools
Disabling a feature can simplify the interface if you don’t use it.
For details, see “Settings: Features”.
Important note about modules
Module settings are not managed here.
Each module (Preview, Terminal, Info, etc.) has its own settings available directly inside the module.
See the article “Module Settings and Per-Module Options” for more.
By spending a few minutes in Settings, you can customize Path Finder’s behavior so it feels natural for you.
