The Browser tab in Settings controls how Path Finder displays and navigates files: hidden items, file extensions, confirmations, and more.
Open the Browser settings
Open Path Finder.
Go to Path Finder > Settings….
Click the Browser tab.
Typical Browser options
Depending on your version, you’ll see options like:
Show hidden files
Toggle visibility of system and dot files (e.g.
.gitignore,.DS_Store).
Show all file extensions
Always show
.txt,.jpg,.zip, etc., or let macOS hide known extensions.
Open folders in new tabs or windows
Choose whether double-clicking or middle-clicking a folder opens:
In the same tab
In a new tab
In a new window
Confirm before moving to Trash
Add a safety step to avoid accidental deletes.
Confirm before emptying Trash
Prevent unintended permanent deletion.
Single vs double-click behavior (where supported)
Adjust how items are selected vs opened.
Why Browser settings matter
Use the Browser tab to:
Reveal or hide system files depending on how technical you are.
Make file extensions always visible for clarity and safety.
Control whether you want a tab-heavy or window-heavy workflow.
Add confirmation dialogs if you’re worried about mis-clicks.
Browser settings let you tune Path Finder’s day-to-day navigation behavior so it matches how you like to work.
