What email app are you using and what is your OS/PF version?

It works here but I'm on Lion. I'll forward this to Tom, since he's on ML.
In the mean time you can use OS X's own service to do it. Just enable it in System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Services > Messaging > New Email With Attachment.

I've tried to replicate this issue, but it seems to work fine. What exact version of OSX are you on. I am currently running OSX 10.8.1, and won't be able to try this on OSX 10.8.2 for some time. Let me know if this is still an issue, and we can try another solution.
