Scroll acceleration in Sierra

Pathfinder in Icon View (List View is fine) uses scroll wheel acceleration that makes controlled scrolling through a long list of photos very difficult. I have turned off the effect for other programs (System Preferences, Firefox) by setting System Preferences>Accessibility>Mouse & Trackpad>Mouse Options>Scrolling speed to Slow but Pathfinder seems not to pick up on this.

To be sure, I'm not sure Pathfinder is to blame but I would like to turn the effect off and any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your email!

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to reproduce the issue.

In order for me to best assist you could you specify the following information:

    1. What is the exact version of Path Finder that you currently have (including the build)?
    2. What is the version of your Operating System?
    3. Could you send us a screenshot or a screen recording so that we could see the issue in more details? Generally, any information that would help us to better understand what is happening would be much appreciated.

Looking forward to your reply to provide you with further assistance. Thanks!

    Best Regards,
    Michael

    Thanks for the quick response.

    1. Pathfinder 7.4.1 (1704)
    2. OS X Sierra 10.12.3
    3. Screen recording attached. The first part shows the expected and
wanted behaviour in List View. It then switches to Icon View and the
    scroll acceleration is activated.

    Hi,

As a workaround, I would recommend you to press Command + J and decrease the size of the icons and distance between them by using two scrolls. Please move it to the left. If the scrolling speed is still not suitable for you, may I kindly ask you to reinstall the application and let us know if it resolves the issue.

To re-install Path Finder 7, first make sure to back-up your license information, so you have it ready after finishing this process. Next, follow the uninstall process listed in this Knowledge Base article:

    http://support.cocoatech.com/kb/installation-compatibility-and-perf...

Once it is done, head to our website to download a fresh installation of Path Finder:
    www.cocoatech.com

Put the Path Finder.app file in your Applications folder (it will perform this task automatically if opened in it's download location), and then enter your license information.

Please feel free to write us back and we will be happy to assist you.

    Best Regards,
    Michael

I have tried the "workaround" and find it not really to be one.

I have also reinstalled Path Finder and the problem remains the same. If
I use Finder there is no problem with Icon Views but I bought your
product because I don't want to use Finder.

Please let me know if you have any other ideas.

    Thanks,
    Tim

I'm using a Microsoft mouse with two buttons and a scroll wheel. The
model number is no longer readable.

Added in edit: I found a tag at the connector. It is a Microsoft Optical Mouse 200, USB of course.

So far, I have found no other application doing it.

I can confirm that this is still happening in Path Finder 8. It's very difficult to scroll in small amounts.

Well, it wasn't repaired. Version 8 behaves exactly as does version 7. This bug makes looking at images very inconvenient. I will not be upgrading until this bug is fixed. When might that be?

I like Pathfinder, in general. It is certainly more useful than Finder
and easier to use. However, this bug, because of what I do, means that I
have to use Finder if I am to look at a directory containing image files.

I first reported this bug over 1 1/2 years ago. You have since released
a new version with the bug still present. I have been hoping that you
would repair the bug but you have not done so yet.

Do you intend to fix it?

    Tim

This bug is still present in 8.3.9. It seems to be related to scrolling speed: if I scroll at a speed of 1 "bump" per second, the scrolling speed remains constant. But if I scroll the wheel quickly, any more than 2 or 3 "bumps" in the wheel cause the window to scroll very quickly, easily scrolling several "pages" at a time. A very frustrating bug indeed, and makes Path Finder pretty unusable for people working with lots of photos or videos. I can also add that scrolling behaves "properly" in list view, and that Path Finder is the only application I have experienced this in. I've been using Path Finder for many years, and it has improved my mac experience tremendously, so I really hate having to use another (otherwise inferior) application when working with photos and videos.

    Hi Ryan,

Which version of macOS do you have installed?
What Views are affected? Since you've mentioned List View is unaffected, are both Column View and Icon View affected?

    Looking forward to your reply.

As the person who created this bug report I can tell you that it
contains a full description. To answer your question, only the icon view
is affected and this has remained the same through two version upgrades
that I know of. It would be nice if it were fixed.

    Hi Jordan,

Iā€™m using macOS Mojave version 10.14.1
Column view also behaves as expected, so it appears icon view is the only area affected.

    Thanks!

    Cheers,
    Ryan
