Sort photos in a file by "Date Taken" (which is not the same as "Date Created")

I have thousands of photos that need to be filed according to the date they were taken. "date taken" however is not equivalent to "date created". "date taken" refers to the moment, when the photo was shot with the camera, while "date created" refers to the moment, I introduce it to my computer.

There had been already a discussion (http://support.cocoatech.com/discussions/problems/34442-sort-photos...) which did not resolve the problem.

For photographers, this sort option is essential and many discussions in internet complain the lack of this feature in the Mac Finder. I uploaded the trial of pathfinder, but until now, I cannot figure out if this feature is available anywhere. I can see the correct "date taken" in the sidebar where the photo info is displayed (in the field IPTC as well as in the field EXIF), however, there is no way to get it sorted upon that.

Cheers
Uwe

    Hi Uwe,

In PathFinder 7 you can sort files by Date Added, Date Created, Date Last Opened and Date Modified.
There is no sorting option for Date Taken. I will treat this as a feature request and forward it to our developer.

Please feel free to write us back and we will be happy to assist you.

    Hi Stan,

thanks for taking this issue to the developer!
I am quite sure that adding this feature will bring you a lot of new
customers among the MacOS based photographers!
The "Date Taken" is one of the features that is long-time implemented
in Microsoft Windows' File Manager and is on the other hand considered
to be a real weakness in Mac OS Finder.
I changed from Microsoft to Apple recently and the lack of "Date taken"
sorting is considerably hampering my photo workflow.

For people who upload photos the same day as they take it with their
camera, it won't make a difference, because "Date Taken" will be the
same as "Date Created". But as soon as you do not download your memory
sticks immediately to your computer, you will be lost. Same, if you
recover your photos from a backup after harddisk failure or harddisk
    replacement.

For testing this (hopefully soon) upcoming feature, your developer
might refer to photos from WikiCommons, e.g.
    https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Quality_images_by_Cccefalon

My photos there contain the full set of EXIF metadata which usually
comes with all modern digital cameras.

    Kind regards,

    Uwe
