Just as cogator reported (https://support.cocoatech.com/discussions/problems/161731-renaming-...) clicking on a file name selects and highlights the whole name and only shows the Services menu with any attempt to click anywhere within the highlighted text to change the insertion point.
A work around I have found is to use the arrow keys to jump to the front of the file name or the end then I can use the mouse to click on where I want the insertion point. I hope this behavior is fixed so I don't need to click and arrow key all the time.
