Hi

After updating to v9.3 I'm experiencing an annoying problem. After selecting files in any folder and selecting "mail" or "compress and mail" in the right click menu, files open in my browser (Opera in this case). The bug was no occuring in previous versions.

Any help will be welcome.

    Hi Carles,

Mary from Path Finder support here!

Can you please specify the behavior that was in the previous versions of Path Finder? Would the file open in browser even if your browser was closed?

    Looking forward to your reply!

    Hi Mary,

Yes, files (whatever file) when right click and select “mail” or “compress and mail” opens in Opera browser even if Opera is closed. When I set Chrome as default browser (or Safari, by the way), the file opens in Opera.

I installed Opera two weeks ago and everything runs smoothly. The only problem is this weird behavior of PF.

As far as I remember, this was not occurring in previous versions of PF.

    Regards

    Carles

    Hi Mary

    Problem persists.
I also updated to the latest version of PF.

Yesterday I sent an e-mail to the Opera support system. Maybe the bug is in its program not in yours.

    Hi Carles,

    Thanks for getting back!

Just to make sure we are on the same page I want to clarify these things:

Current outcome: when you press mail or compress & mail the file is opened in Opera; when the default browser is not Opera it still opens in Opera.

Desired outcome: when you press mail or compress & mail the file is opened in Opera only if the default browser is Opera.

    Is it correct?

    Looking forward to your reply!

It opens in Opera whatever the default browser is…. and only does that.

No. The desired outcome is that the selected file will be attached to an e-mail message or compressed and attached to an e-mail message, respectively (as it did before). Now, this doesn’t happen. Now, files (any kind of file: txt, docx, pdf, xls, …) open in Opera.

    Hope it helps

    Hi Carles,

Thanks for reaching back to Path Finder support team!

Could you send us a sample (a snapshot) of Path Finder process in a separate file? This will enable us to analyze what happens with the application. Make sure to include two samples of both mail/compress and mail option.

    Here's how to get it:

    1. Open Path Finder and reproduce the problem. If the problem is dynamic (e.g. unexpected action result), please try reproducing it during the sample collection.
    2. Open Activity Monitor from the /Applications/Utilities folder.
    3. Select Path Finder in the process list. To help making a selection, type "Path Finder" in the Filter field.
    4. Click the Sample Process button in the toolbar - this will open a new window entitled "Sample of Path Finder" and a sample of the process is collected.
    5. Click Save and save the sample file.
    6. Close (Command-W) the Sample window opened in step 2.
    7. Send the sample file saved in step 5 to us.

    Looking forward to your reply!

    Dear Mary

    Attached.

However, I don’t know if both processes (“mail_to” and “compress_and_mail_to”) have been saved in both samples since they’re dynamic.

Charles, when you use email or compress and email from Path Finder, Path Finder tries to add those files as attachments in an empty message and open that message in the default mail client. If those files open in Opera, that means Opera has "hijacked" the role of default email client (note, we're talking to default email client here, not default browser) during installation. Change your default email client back to what you use (most probably built in Apple's Mail) and try again.

Let me know it this helped.

    Dear Dragan,

    You’ve got it! Really wonderful!

In fact, setting the default e-mail client can only be done in Apple Mail. Since I use Microsoft Outlook I rarely open Mail. So, I checked the option in Mail and the defaul mail client was “Opera.app” (although Opera is not an e-mail client). So, I changed it to Outlook and everything works perfect.

    Thank you very much!!

    Stay safe!

Charles, when you use **email** or **compress and email** from Path Finder, Path Finder tries to add those files as attachments in an empty message and open that message in the **default mail client**.
