Shelves are greyed out

I can't figure out why I only have the option for left and bottom shelves. The icons for right and top shelves are greyed out. I'm using the most recent versions of both pathfinder 9 and OS X.

    Hi John,

    I was wondering also why I couldn't pop the top shelf on my side, but found out that we need to first place a module there to enable the top bar buttons. So, you should pop the Modules window (Menubar > Window > Modules) and drag one module to the side that you want to have a shelf and release it there to enable it.

    Sorry for the bad formatting on my post above, I think I added some spaces where I shouldn't. So, here is the important part:

    Thanks for the suggestion. It worked for the top shelf, but not for the right or bottom shelf. Bizarre
