Beachball Freezing

When I launch the app and click on a file, the app beachballs. Not only does it beachball the app, but my whole computer. I can still move the mouse, but can't use any app. The only way out of it is to press the hardware power button.

I've let it beachball for as long as 10 minutes and it doesn't recover.

This is reproducible 100% of the time for me.

I had this same problem in Path Finder 8. I was hoping 9 would fix it.

    Hi Doug,

    Could you send us a sample (a snapshot) of Path Finder process in a separate file? This will enable us to analyze what happens with the application. Here's how to get it:

    1. Open Path Finder and reproduce the problem. If the problem is dynamic (e.g. unexpected action result), please try reproducing it during the sample collection.
    2. Open Activity Monitor from the /Applications/Utilities folder.
    3. Select Path Finder in the process list. To help making a selection, type "Path Finder" in the Filter field.
    4. Click the Sample Process button in the toolbar - this will open a new window entitled "Sample of Path Finder" and a sample of the process is collected.
    5. Click Save and save the sample file.
    6. Close (Command-W) the Sample window opened in step 2.
    7. Send the sample file saved in step 5 to us.

    Attached is a sample after a fresh start before using it.

    Once it locks up, I am unable to get a sample as you can see from this

    It's not actually crashing. It just balloons and makes all other apps
    slow/unresponsive. So I need to hold to power button to restart. This is
    what I see in that directory. None of them look like PathFinder.

    I've had this problem intermittently for a couple of years. I submitted as much information as I could, but with the latest PF8 version there is still no relief.

    Sorry to say, but I’ve had this problem with every version of Pathfinder since 7. The request is always the same: please send process logs, which as you have experienced, is impossible. There is something deep within PathFinder’s file handling code that is wrong, but anybody with this problems (there are MANY of us) is unable to provide any logs. So the problem continues. I feel for CocoaTech, trying to fix a problem they clearly cannot reproduce. But it is very real. I’ve paid for three different upgrades, each time hoping they’ve finally fixed the problem. Each time I’ve been disappointed. I love this App, but cannot use it.

    I'm having the same problem. I'm using a full-on Mac Pro so speed and IO are unlikely to be the problem. It seems to have gotten much worse with v9. It's so unusable that I am going back to Finder (which seems to work fine and has zero beach balls).

    I'm not upgrading until I see that "the developer" gets his actbto together. I see no action taken towards this long-standing problem.

    The issue has not resolved itself for me either. Unfortunately I had to stop using this app and go back to the finder.
