It's not actually crashing. It just balloons and makes all other apps
slow/unresponsive. So I need to hold to power button to restart. This is
what I see in that directory. None of them look like PathFinder.

Sorry to say, but I’ve had this problem with every version of Pathfinder since 7. The request is always the same: please send process logs, which as you have experienced, is impossible. There is something deep within PathFinder’s file handling code that is wrong, but anybody with this problems (there are MANY of us) is unable to provide any logs. So the problem continues. I feel for CocoaTech, trying to fix a problem they clearly cannot reproduce. But it is very real. I’ve paid for three different upgrades, each time hoping they’ve finally fixed the problem. Each time I’ve been disappointed. I love this App, but cannot use it.
I'm having the same problem. I'm using a full-on Mac Pro so speed and IO are unlikely to be the problem. It seems to have gotten much worse with v9. It's so unusable that I am going back to Finder (which seems to work fine and has zero beach balls).
