Virtual Desktop Sorting?

Guys I'm trying to work out the desktop sorting within the PF8 virtual desktop. What I want to do is to be able to manually position shortcuts, files, folders, alias's, etc on the desktop but have them snap to grid so that they line up nicely.

This does not seem to be possible at all as the sort by date option can't be turned off?

Or am I missing the obvious somewhere? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

While on Path Finder's Desktop, choose View -> Show View Options and uncheck "keep icons arranged".

Please feel free to write us back and we will be happy to assist you.

    Hi Daron,

Please, open the Desktop proper (not the desktop folder in Path Finder) and try opening the View Options menu here. It should say "Desktop View Options" instead of "List View Options". There, please uncheck "keep icons arranged".

Let me know how it goes!

Sure, I've done that already and although that does turn off the auto-arranging I'm still unable to manually position files on the desktop. I've set 'Arrange by none', and that was no help either.
    This is driving me nuts!

    Hi Daron,

Which exact version of Path Finder and macOS do you have installed?

In order for me to best assist you could you make a screen recording of the issue and send it to us, please?
To make a screen recording please follow the steps below:
    1. Launch Finder>Applications>Quick Time Player.
    2. Tray Menu>File>New Screen Recording.

or use Command + Shift + 5 (on macOS Mojave).

I believe this is going to help us a lot! Looking forward to your reply.

    Hi Daron,

Which exact version of Path Finder and macOS do you have installed on your Mac?

Are you unable to move any files on your Desktop, or just some? May I ask you to toggle (enable and then disable) the "keep icons arranged" option?
If that fails, could you please see if disabling "snap to grid" makes any difference?

    Looking forward to your reply.

Hi Jordan, good morning. Path Finder version is 8.5b8 (1947), and the OS is Mojave 10.14.5. The problem is with any files, none of them will move to the dragged location.

I’ve tried all the options including toggling on / off the ‘keep icons arranged’ option and also taking of snap to grid. The only change that takes place is that when toggling off ‘keep icons arranged’ then the icons change to random placement positions on the right hand side of the screen.

No change in the combination of any of the settings makes any difference.

BTW I’m an I.T. Administrator and software beta tester of 20+ experience, and although new to the Mac world, have tried all combinations that I can think of any nothing seems to make a difference.

The aim is for me to be able to drag the icons to where I want them to do, but for them to snap to grid so that they look neat and tidy :)

Looking forward to your further responses.

    Regards
    Daron (on Mac mini)

    Hi Daron,

    Sorry for the delayed replies!

Could you send us a sample (a snapshot) of PathFinder process in a separate file - this will enable us to analyze what happens with the application. Here's how to get it:

    1. Open Path Finder and reproduce the problem.
    2. Open Activity Monitor from the /Applications/Utilities folder.
    3. Select Path Finder in the process list. To help making a selection, type "Path Finder" in the Filter field.
    4. Click the Sample Process button in the toolbar - this will open a new window entitled "Sample of Path Finder" and a sample of the process is collected.
    5. Click Save and save the sample file.
    6. Close (Command-W) the Sample window opened in step 2.
    7. Send the sample file saved in step 5 to us.

    Looking forward to your reply.
