Intermittent freezing when closing a window

Now and then (maybe once a week or two) PF8 will freeze when I try to close a window. I'll click on the red button in the top left corner, and I'll get a spinning beach ball. Even if I let it spin for 10 min or more, it never stops, and I have to force quit PF.

What can I do to help diagnose this problem? During the freeze, I don't see anything obvious in a Console window. When I force quit, a bunch of messages appear in Console, but it's not clear which of them are from PF8. I get a lot of these:

default 17:59:33.606514 -0500 DXFinderWindowServer AppleEvents: received mach msg which wasn't complex type as expected in getMemoryReference.

Is that from PF?

    Hi Tom,

How long has it been since you got a fresh copy of PF8?
May I ask you to follow the instruction and check if the issue still persists:

    1. Delete Path Finder and its traces according to the article:
      http://support.cocoatech.com/kb/installation-and-compatibility/how-...
    2. Download the latest version of the app from our site
    3. Launch Path Finder and move it to the Apps folder as the app suggests

Let me know how it goes.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Jordan-

I only upgraded from PF7 last month (early Dec), so my installation is from then.

Your suggested clean install appears to remove all of my settings. I have a bunch of saved tab sets, and I keep a bunch of windows, each with a bunch of tabs, constantly active. Do you have a suggestion that would not involve losing any of my setup?
