PF Fails to Switch to a New Directory

Sometimes when I'm viewing the files in a directory and want to switch to another directory, PF won't switch. In the attachment you can see that I am at:

/Users/mnewman/Dropbox/Camera Uploads

I'm trying to switch to:

/Users/mnewman/Downloads

But PF won't switch. It just stays at the original directory.

The only way to fix this is to close the tab and open a new one. This doesn't always happen, but it is impossible to predict when it will.

This is not good.

    Hi,

How long has it been since you got a fresh copy of Path Finder?
May I ask you to follow the instruction and check if the issue still persists:

    1. Delete Path Finder and its traces according to the article:
      http://support.cocoatech.com/kb/installation-and-compatibility/how-...
    2. Download the latest version of the app from our site
    3. Launch Path Finder and move it to the Apps folder as the app suggests

Let me know how it goes.

I'm running 8.3.8 which was installed just a few days ago.

I shouldn't have to manually "delete all traces of Path Finder" in order to fix a bug.

    Hi,

Thanks for the additional details that it's a clean install.
Please follow the instruction and check if the issue still persists:

    1. Make sure that Path Finder is located in the Applications folder
(in case you are using macOS Mojave) Use System Preferences > Security & Privacy > grant Full Disk Access to Path Finder

    2. Open your terminal and paste the following command to check if Path Finder has been slapped with the quarantined extended attribute:
      xattr /Applications/"Path Finder.app"

    3. If you see com.apple.quarantine returned as output from that last command, then go ahead and run this next command:
      xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/"Path Finder.app"

You won't get any feedback or output from that command, but that's okay because you can just run the first command again to see for yourself if the com.apple.quarantine attribute shows up again. It shouldn't, and now Path Finder is freed from Apple quarantine jail. Restart your PathFinder now.

Don't hesitate to contact us should any questions arise.

    Best Regards,

Let me clarify a few things:

    • This is not a clean install of 8.3.8, it is a recent upgrade

    • I did a clean install ("remove all traces") of the 8.2.4 beta

    • The failure to change directories problem has been around for me since the first PF8 release. But, it is unpredictable, intermittent and not reproducible. I haven't mentioned it before because I keep hoping that subsequent releases will fix it. They have not.

    • PF is in the Applications folder: /Applications/Path Finder.app

    • PF is not quarantined:

    MrMuscle:~ mnewman$ xattr /Applications/"Path Finder.app"
    MrMuscle:~ mnewman$

    • PF did not have Full Disk Access. It does now. (I don't recall ever being asked to grant PF full disk access).

I'll post again if Full Disk Access did not solve the problem.

    Hi,

I see, if the issue still persists, I'd suggest giving a clean install (the AppCleaner way is quicker) a shot.

Please feel free to write us back and we will be happy to assist you.
