Click to rename

I noticed another thread for this issue that was closed, but when I slow double-click to rename a file it doesn't activate/highlight. More precisely it usually doesn't. Occasionally (and to no pattern I can discern) it works.

I've tried deleting and re-installing, as suggested in the other thread, but it still isn't working. I've added the rename option to the contextual menu in the short term, but hopefully the issue will get cleared up because it's not the ideal way to work.

    Hi Dave,

Thank you for the feedback. Sure, it's on our list.

Meanwhile, please confirm, is it still not working in you click way slower than usual?

No, I tried a number of variations and occasionally it will work, but only very occasionally.

    Thank you!

I'm having this problem too with the latest build of Path Finder.

I am also finding that the click to rename feature is not working well in the latest build. I can sometimes get it to work after repeated clicks but often I can't get it to work at all.

Here's another user that cannot do the slow-click-to-rename. The keypad Enter key works fine, the Command > Rename... works, but not a slow double click.

I'm running Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6 and Path Finder 8.2.4 (1892)

I experience this problem as well - whenever I have selected a file within a PathFinder window. But I recently noticed that the feature works fine (click to select, then click again to edit filename) works fine for a file on the (PathFinder) desktop.
Thanks for the tip about using the keypad Enter key.

So guys, I'm just wondering, I see this thread gets closed and then re-opened, then closed, then re-opened. What is the status of this bug? It seems enough people are experiencing this that it has not been completely resolved. I've searched through numerous posts here and don't find a solution to the "slow double-click to rename", only work arounds. I just updated to version 8.3.8 (on Mac OS 10.13.6), and still cannot use the slow double-click to do a file rename, which is the normal Finder option (which does work, BTW). Would love to know if this is being worked on...or not.

Just responding to the latest post, although I had posted about this before Nov 15, 2018. I still cannot click-to-rename WHEN I am in COLUMNS view. However, I have found that when I am in ICON view or LIST view (as well as when I am on the desktop), I have no problem clicking-to-rename.

My default (and preferred) view is COLUMNS. So, when I want to rename a file, I quickly switch to LIST view, rename the file, and return to COLUMNS view. Clearly this is clunky, but it is not as frustrating as repeatedly trying to slowly double-click or change to Info panel to rename.

Still, I really wish this would get resolved.

Another user with the same problem, which has been ongoing for a VERY long time now. Thanks to mhwill for pointing out this issue only occurs in column view (my default usage mode). It does indeed work perfectly in List and Icon view. Like others, I added Rename to my contextual menu, but all of these work-arounds are simply annoying for what is essentially a productivity tool. And I have found another related bug that results from using the Rename contextual menu: when I create a new folder, I give it a name in the drop-down menu and hit OK. The drop-down closes, the folder is created and the drop-down then opens again, but this time as the Rename drop-down, containing the text I last typed in the Rename field. This happens whether I hit OK or Cancel on the drop-down to name the new folder.
    I'm using PathFinder 8.3.9 on Sierra 10.12.6

Having same issue, even keyboard shortcut doesn't work, only going to Tools/Rename works but this is a real time waster

    Hi Dave,

Which version of macOS and Path Finder do you have installed?

Does renaming from the context menu (Customizable through "Customize Menu..." or Path Finder -> Preferences -> Features -> Contextual menu) work? Which view are you in? Do other views display the same behavior with click to rename?

Please feel free to write us back and we will be happy to assist you.

To chip in Jordan, this has been a well documented problem since PF8 was released.

It works fine in icon and list views, but not in columns view.

    PF 8.5 running on Mojave.

    Hi Dave,

Could you send us a sample (a snapshot) of PathFinder process in a separate file - this will enable us to analyze what happens with the application. Here's how to get it:

    1. Open Path Finder and reproduce the problem.
    2. Open Activity Monitor from the /Applications/Utilities folder.
    3. Select Path Finder in the process list. To help making a selection, type "Path Finder" in the Filter field.
    4. Click the Sample Process button in the toolbar - this will open a new window entitled "Sample of Path Finder" and a sample of the process is collected.
    5. Click Save and save the sample file.
    6. Close (Command-W) the Sample window opened in step 2.
    7. Send the sample file saved in step 5 to us.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Best Regards,
    Jordan
