Why can't I connect to Windows SMB shares?

With the release of OS X 10.7 Lion, Apple removed all public SMB file sharing tools from the operating system due to a GPL licensing issue. Path Finder relies very heavily on these tools in order to discover and connect to Windows shares. We have packaged Snow Leopard's SMB tools with Path Finder, however there are compatibility issues.

Apple is currently building a replacement for SMB called SMBX. As of April 2012, the release date for SMBX is still unknown. Until Path Finder is able to use SMBX, our best suggestion is to mount problematic Windows shares with the Finder. Once connected, you will be able to access these shares through Path Finder.
