PF deletes original Files after finishing the File Copy Queue

Dear CocoaTech Developers

Since a very short time I see that Pathfinder 7.6.2 (1729) is DELETING files after I copied them from one Volume (internal SSD) to another Volue (external RAID) without notice or error - also not in the System log ???
This happened now on different customer sites on MacPro & MacMini Servers with macOS 10.11.6 (PF 7.5-1720) & 10.12.6 (PF 7.6.2-1729)... it only seems to happen with Apple Image DMG files.. (Finder copies them properly).

Any Idea what this could be - I've never seen something like this from PathFinder in all this years.

Thanks / Mik

...for the the record, I'm using PathFinder every day on all of my own Macs & on many of my customer sites... since the very beginning where it still was called STAX. I'm also an ACSA, implying I should know what I'm talking about ;-)

    Hi,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Please follow the instruction and check if the issue still persists:

    1. Open your terminal and paste the following command to check if Path Finder has been slapped with the quarantined extended attribute:
      xattr /Applications/"Path Finder.app"

    2. If you see com.apple.quarantine returned as output from that last command, then go ahead and run this next command:
      xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/"Path Finder.app"

You won't get any feedback or output from that command, but that's okay because you can just run the first command again to see for yourself if the com.apple.quarantine attribute shows up again. It shouldn't, and now Path Finder is freed from Apple quarantine jail. Restart your PathFinder now.

Let me know how it goes.

    Best Regards,
    Jordan

    Hi,

May I ask you to try PathFinder 7.4.1 on El Capitan.
Further versions brought only new macOS optimization, that sometimes causes troubles for those who use older systems.
Here's the link to the compatible version: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hw64ywf3fbafis2/PF_7.4.1_%281704%29.zip?dl=0

We also recommend disabling the automatic update checker in Path Finder > Preferences > General.

Let me know how it goes.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Jordan

O.k. will try PathFinder 7.4.1 on El Capitan

    1. what about the Sierra Server, which Version should I run there, is 7.6.2 fine ?

    2. does it might help to use cmd anyway "xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/"Path Finder.app"

ps: I'm working on this server usually remotely via Apple Remote Desktop - could recent 3.9.3 update have something to do with it ?

    regards / Mik

    Hi,

7.6.2 is the choice for Sierra.

It won't change anything if the first command returns nothing.
It will just say "no such xattr" or something like this.

Can't say regarding the update at the moment, unfortunately.

    Hi Jordan

Thank You for coming back. If PF 7.6.2 is the recommended Version von macOS 10.12.6 then this problem is not solved - please do not close this Discussion therefore.

If drag & drop copy between two physical disks results in the deletion of the original data - then we have serious problem which needs to be fixed. Otherwise this would mean that PathFinder can no longer be trusted !

What can we do, do we have to file an official bug-report ? I can give your Support access to any log file or whatever You need, please let me know..

    regards / Mik

May I suggest waiting for PathFinder 8? We're currently beta testing it.
The plan is to release it within a week.
It's re-written from a scratch and way more stable in many ways.

Please feel free to write us back and we will be happy to assist you.

    Hi Jordan

Thank You, then we'll wait for PF 8.x :-)

Will PF8 be backwards compatible to OS X 10.11.6 (we have this older MacPro Server which are stuck with 10.11.x) ?

    cheers / Mik
