Finding files in a symbolic link folder

Path Finder search does not find files in a folder which is marked as a symbolic link. Specifically, the folder has the path (as shown in the PF main viewer):
Macintosh HD/private/var/spool/pdfwriter/jrs "pdfwriter" has the small arrow in the lower left, which I understand to mean a symbolic link. This folder and its contents are visible in the main viewer.

The files are found if I use the Spotlight Search in PF. However, on my previous computer the program found these files without any problem, using the "Find" button. I do not know what changed.

The PF version is 7.6.2, which I updated during the move to a new computer. Using the Spotlight search takes a very long time; it only works if "Computer" is selected as the domain of search. If "5 Places" (the result of ticking 5 boxes in the "Others" area, one of which is the above path) is selected, the Spotlight search grinds away forever and never stops or returns a result.

    Hi Jayna,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Could you please confirm, is PathFinder search unable to find files in such folders in both search modes?
There is a little switch on Toolbar for Search/Spotlight modes in Find window (cmd+F).
Also, are you able to search these folders using Finder?

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Jordan,

PathFinder finds the files only in Search/Spotlight mode, with Computer
selected as the place to search (in the line of places listed under the
    "Find", "Find by", etc., buttons).
But that takes ages (probably 30 seconds or so; I didn't time it.)  Not
a reasonable alternative when you should be able to tell the program
just to look in that one folder (which is where a "Print to PDF" program
puts its files, and I don't know how to change that).

Finder did not find files in that folder (even with "This Mac" selected
    as the search domain).
    Thanks,
    Jayna

    Hi Jayna,

Thank you for the additional details.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely that PathFinder 7 will be updated.
But we will make sure to review this behavior in PathFinder 8.

Please also follow the instruction and check if takes same much time to search (as you mentioned that it takes ages):

    1. Open your terminal and paste the following command to check if Path Finder has been slapped with the quarantined extended attribute:
      xattr /Applications/"Path Finder.app"

    2. If you see com.apple.quarantine returned as output from that last command, then go ahead and run this next command:
      xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/"Path Finder.app"

You won't get any feedback or output from that command, but that's okay because you can just run the first command again to see for yourself if the com.apple.quarantine attribute shows up again. It shouldn't, and now Path Finder is freed from Apple quarantine jail. Restart your PathFinder now.

Let me know how it goes.

    Best Regards,
    Jordan
