Excessive power consumption on MacBook Pro

Dear Support,

I have a MacBook Pro with a 2TB solid state internal drive. I recently upgraded the operating system to High Sierra. Upon doing so I noticed that the battery life approximately halved. I investigated using Activity Monitor and found that Path Finder 7 was the culprit (as indicated by the energy impact value). I then confirmed by closing Path Finder and used Finder instead. Power drain then appeared to revert back to normal. Please advise if there is a work around for this problem?

Many thanks

John

    Hi John,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Unfortunately, this is a known issue. It has already been reported to our developers.

May I ask you to replace the Preview and Info modules with any other ones in shelves and check if it makes any difference?
Don't collapse them, just right-click and choose any other.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Best Regards,
    Jordan

    Hi Jordan

Thank you for your reply and work around suggestion. I did as you suggested, and changed both the side and lower draw modules to something other than Preview or Info. Unfortunately, this made no change to the excessive Path Finder power draw.

I’d be happy to test out any fix that your developers come up with when available. Would you please let me know further developments when available?

    Kind regards,

    John…

    Hi John,

I see. Thanks for checking that.

I'm adding you to the list of our beta-testers.
But, unfortunately, I can't guarantee your participation now since it, most likely, has already been submitted.

    Though you shouldn't worry.
Our developers will not hesitate to put a fix into the release branch as soon as it's available.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Please feel free to write us back and we will be happy to assist you.

    Best Regards,
    Jordan
