copy/paste error

I have Pathfinder version 7.4.6 running, running OS X 10.10.5. I keep having an issue that the app is crashing whenever I copy a file into a buffer and paste it to either create a duplicate or try to overwrite existing files. Doesn’t matter what it is, a text file, an executable, a folder, it keeps crashing… This is something I do a lot, so having the app crash 10 times a day is starting to get rather annoying… This bug was not present in the previous version. I updated when was prompted, however, the update itself was buggy - I was getting a message that the Pathfinder app could not be found, I had to redownload it from the website for it to open. I suspect the origin of the issue is the same - issue of overwriting files.

Please fix this asap.

Yes, file manipulation does work as it is supposed to in this version.

Glad to hear, that it's fine now.

Also, I would recommend you to uncheck the auto-updates in the app for now.

    Hello,

I tried posting in the forums several times, but nothing seems to go through, but here it goes.

I've recently got a new imac running 10.12.6, and Pathfinder just doesn't play nice with it. Every once in a while, it crashes the entire OS, the cursor just spins endlessly, I am unable to even pull up the force close window, the only thing I can do is hold the power button. And even then, if upon restart all the windows come back open, including the Pathfinder, everything crashes within seconds of opening. If I were to remove everything about it in Library/Application Support, I can start using it again, for a short while, until I encounter this issue again. At least twice I think the culprit was the built in text editor, few times just trying to open a text file after I switched it to something more reasonable, once may be something with Servers?, but most of the time it's hard to figure out. I tried it with Pathfinder 7.4.1, 7.5, and 7.6, all of them give me this error. Surprisingly, I do have a different system running the same OS (was upgraded in place a few months ago from 10.10, and had the app for years before that without incident) there it works without any issue, but these crashes are starting to drive me up the wall.

    Hi Marina,

    Thank you for contacting us!

Please delete all instances of Path Finder from the Applications folder, head to our site and download Path Finder 7.6 installer, copy .zip to the Applications folder and unzip it in there. This fixes various permissions related issues. If that doesn't remedy your issues, may I ask if you see any logging messages coming from Path Finder (use Console.app to see those messages) at the moment this irregularity happens?

    Looking forward to your reply.

A near immediate crash even with the new version. I am attaching the
picture of the console logs as the rest of the system was frozen.

    Hi Marina,

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Could you please specify, is there a way for you to send us your crash log? Or does it just hang so you can't?
Does it show any logs at all? If it does, please attach them and send to us in a separate file.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Hi Marina,

Could you send us a sample (a snapshot) of Path Finder process in a separate file - this will enable us to analyze what happens with the application. Without logs and samples, we can't tell what's happened to Path Finder and the system. Here's how to get it:

    1. Open Path Finder and reproduce the problem.
    2. Open Activity Monitor from the /Applications/Utilities folder.
    3. Select Path Finder in the process list. To help making a selection, type "Path Finder" in the Filter field.
    4. Click the Sample Process button in the toolbar - this will open a new window entitled "Sample of Path Finder" and a sample of the process is collected.
    5. Click Save and save the sample file.
    6. Close (Command-W) the Sample window opened in step 2.
    7. Send the sample file saved in step 5 to us.

Looking forward to your reply to provide you with further assistance.

    Hello,

I am replying to this post, as I had similar problems to Marina's March 16, 2017 post, when copying / pasting on a USB flash drive.
    * PathFinder v 7.6 (1724) * MacOS Version: Yosemite 10.10.5 * Lexar 128 GB USB flash drive using USB 3.0 porn on MacBook

    To duplicate the crash:
    1. Insert Lexar USB flash drive with existing data
    2. Create a folder on USB drive
    3. copy files from some location into that folder
    4. Copy the folder (using right click)
    5. Navigate to another folder on USB drive.
    6. Paste the folder (using right click).

Result: paste happens OK, but PF crashes consistently each time. Must restart PathFinder, and a PF error log is then displayed (attached).

Is this a new issue, or related to Marina's?

    Hi,

As we've mentioned earlier, the 7.5 version uses new APIs to be compatible with the Sierra, same as the 7.6 is optimized with High Sierra, that causes troubles for those who use older systems.
Those versions bring almost no other changes, so please downgrade.

Here's the link to the compatible version: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hw64ywf3fbafis2/PF_7.4.1_%281704%29.zip?dl=0

We also recommend disabling the automatic update checker in Path Finder > Preferences > General.

Let us know should you have any further questions.
