Renaming with Enter key and Return key

Since upgrading to 10.7 Lion and Pathfinder 5.x I've noticed that the Enter key no longer allows me to rename files. I don't mean the renaming dialogue box available with Cmd-Shift-R or in the menubar under Commands > Rename. That works fine. I mean the inline rename in the list view of Pathfinder. The Return key still launches/opens applications and files as usual.

This new behavior is consistent on both the built-in keyboard on my MacBook and on my external keyboard. Right now I'm running Pathfinder 5.8.1 on Mac OS 10.7.3 on an early Intel-based MacBook.

I noticed in the changelog under Path Finder 5.1.4: "26. Enter key now is same as return key in Application Launcher."

Does this mean the old Enter key functionality is gone? Or am I encountering a bug? What command can I use to replicate the old inline rename functionality? Can I map a key to this command either in Pathfinder or in System Preferences?

Thanks for the great work!

    Hi Eric.

In Path Finder's 'Preferences > Browser' you can set the desired behavior for both the Enter and Return keys.

    I appreciate the quick reply!

I didn't know about those settings... My preferences were set correctly, however.

I tracked the problem to the Application Support folder for DoubleCommand (, a keyboard mapping kernel extension I installed and promptly deleted shortly after upgrading to Lion in an unsuccessful bid to make in 10.7 behave more like in 10.6. Deleting this folder and restarting solved the problem.

    Thanks for the help!

I'm using Path Finder version 7.6.2 (1729) and the Preferences->Browser pane holds no options for setting the behavior of the Enter and Return keys. I find it disconcerting to have the rename behavior differ from that which is prevalent in other applications, mjuch though I've always disliked it.

I downloaded PF from your site about a week ago and running on High Sierra 10.13.3. Is this a version problem?
