Error installing Pathfinder 8 upgrade

I keep getting this error every time I try to install a Pathfinder 8 upgrade

"Path Finder does not have permission to write to the application's directory! Are you running off a disk image? If not, ask your system administrator for help."

I am not running off a disk image. I AM the system administrator and enter the admin password when prompted. I cannot figure out what is wrong or how to get around it. I have had Pathfinder for years and never had a problem like this before.

Thank you for any insight you can give me.

    Hi David,

Please follow the instruction and check if the issue still persists:

    1. Make sure that Path Finder is located in the Applications folder

    2. Open your terminal and paste the following command to check if Path Finder has been slapped with the quarantined extended attribute:
      xattr /Applications/"Path Finder.app"

    3. If you see com.apple.quarantine returned as output from that last command, then go ahead and run this next command:
      xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/"Path Finder.app"

You won't get any feedback or output from that command, but that's okay because you can just run the first command again to see for yourself if the com.apple.quarantine attribute shows up again. It shouldn't, and now Path Finder is freed from Apple quarantine jail. Restart your PathFinder now.

Don't hesitate to contact us should any questions arise.

    Hi

When I ran the command I got no feedback about quarantine. I tried to install the update again and it failed in the exact same way.

What should I try now? Should I uninstall Path Finder and reinstall from scratch ?

    Best regards

    David

    Hi David,

May I ask you to follow the instruction and check if the issue still persists:

    1. Delete Path Finder and its traces according to the article:
      http://support.cocoatech.com/kb/installation-and-compatibility/how-...
    2. Download the latest version of the app from our site
    3. Launch Path Finder and move it to the Apps folder as the app suggests

Let me know how it goes.

    Best Regards,
